It has come to our attention that after interviewing many cats, they can’t speak. It was even more difficult to get them to sit down with us. Instead, we figured it would be best to just show you some great photos of our toys in action. Here are a few of our actual happy cat customers that have enjoyed the Kitty Kick Stix! Catnip, scientifically known as Nepeta cataria, is a herbaceous plant that belongs to the mint family (Lamiaceae). It is native to Europe and Asia, but it has become widespread and is now found in many regions around the world. Catnip is well-known for its effects on cats, as many cats exhibit a strong attraction to the plant.
The active compound responsible for the catnip's effects on cats is called nepetalactone. When cats come into contact with catnip, whether by smelling, licking, or rolling on it, they may exhibit various behaviors such as sniffing, licking, rubbing, rolling, and even hyperactive playfulness. These reactions typically last for about 10 to 15 minutes, after which the cat may lose interest. Not all cats are affected by catnip, as sensitivity to it is hereditary and not all cats possess the gene that makes them responsive to nepetalactone.
Catnip is safe for cats and is often used as a form of enrichment or as a training aid. Some cat toys are infused with catnip to encourage play. In addition to its effects on cats, catnip has been used in traditional medicine for humans to make herbal teas with mild sedative properties.
When cats come into contact with catnip, whether by smelling, licking, or rubbing against it, the nepetalactone binds to receptors in their nasal tissue, which then stimulates sensory neurons in the cat's olfactory epithelium. This stimulation leads to a variety of behaviors that are often associated with pleasure and play.
The exact mechanism by which nepetalactone affects cats is not fully understood, but it is believed to mimic feline pheromones, specifically those related to mating behaviors. In the wild, such scents may signal the presence of a potential mate or mark territory, so cats may be naturally drawn to catnip due to these instincts.
It's important to note that not all cats are affected by catnip, as sensitivity to it is inherited and not all cats possess the gene that makes them responsive to nepetalactone. Sensitivity to catnip is hereditary and is not related to a cat's age or gender. Additionally, after exposure to catnip, there is a refractory period during which a cat may not respond to catnip again until some time has passed. The effects of catnip are generally harmless, and it is considered a safe and enjoyable enrichment for many cats.

Tips/ Tricks
- Not all cats respond to catnip, do not be discouraged. It is recommend owners know if their cat will enjoy catnip ahead of purchasing.
- It is recommended you trim your cat's nails regularly to extend the longevity of our toys. These are soft cotton fabrics and we cannot guarantee all cat's nail will not rip or tear the cotton fabric. Sharp or untrimmed nails will breakdown our toys.
Catnip is a natural plant, so the scent does fade over time. We recommend the following to keep the scent going as long as possible.
- To maintain the strong catnip scent, it is recommended to re-seal the catnip kicker in a zip-lock bag for extended use.
- Care/Use: Massage toy before playtime, to release catnip buds aroma. Supervise cat when playing with this toy.
- Do not allow cat to eat the stuffing if they rip the fabric. Do not machine wash toys, only wipe down.
- When toy is not in use, reseal in a zip bag.
- You can rub additional catnip on the stick anytime, or use catnip spray to rejuvenate the scent.
Reaction with Cats
This is a pet (cat) product. It has been played with by thousands of cat’s, but due to us not knowing how to communicate with a cat, we can’t guarantee it will work on all cats. We love cats and try our best, but will not accept a return if you cat doesn’t decide to play with it. We have fixed costs and labor that need to be cover. Every toy, in every video, is made the exact same each time one is created.
All videos and photos of cats playing with the Kitty Kick Stix are actual Cat Customers and not paid celebrities.
Each one is handmade and cats may react differently to this toy, therefore please make sure your cat does enjoy catnip as the toys can’t be returned.
Cats may become aggressive due to the cat nip scent and we cannot guarantee the strength of material with all cats. It is recommended all pets are supervised with the use of any pet toy, not just ours.
The smell is so STRONG my cat is STONED. Just like with ANY toy or ANY pet product, ANY pet should be supervised.
We are a family owned business and take time to handmake each one. We use ultra-potent catnip and mix it throughout the stix. Our catnip is grown in the USA and never sits out for more than 3 days – some of the strongest available. If you cat does have a reaction or becomes stoned, take the toy away, provide some water to your cat and turn on the TV. Your cat may need to take a ‘catnap’ for a bit before playing again.

Usually when I get this stuff it's a little more leafy and greener. And usually my cats like it. But this was different. This looked more seedy but more compact and dense. I hadn't even opened the jar and the cats were already climbing up my leg. This is uncommon for cats that usually just like cat nip. They didn't just like it. They LOVED it.. I was pleased only because most of the time they don't like it or they burn out on it really fast. They seemed occupied by it for longer than usual. I almost wanted to eat some but the cats told me it doesn't taste as good as it smells. That was good enough for me.
Five of my six cats love Kitty Kick Stix -- the sixth doesn't possess the catnip gene. From spring through December, here in SoCal, we grow our own catnip, and our cats eat it along with dried catnip daily. In summer, they gorge on all fresh.But when winter descends, we cut the plants back and the home-dried leaves don't last long. So we buy lots of dried catnip for our little addicts. We also keep dried catnip on hand to store in zip-lock bags where we refresh their catnip toys. So we need lots.This 'nip is USA-grown and you get a lot for your buck. The cats are very enthusiastic about this brand. Highly recommended!
I have 2 cats but only 1 seems to somewhat like this stuff. I was hoping for a more dramatic effect, but instead of going crazy, my kitty just chews on it for a while and goes to sleep. Not as funny as I was hoping, but it's fine. It's not like this is stale or anything. It smells pungent to me, and it seems fresh enough, but I've tried catnip in the past and I've had similar results. I guess I was hoping this would work since I haven't tried it a ton. It's just the personality of the cats. The container is a little bit on the smaller side, but I get the impression this stuff goes a long way.
I've been through a lot of catnip with 3 cats. They're very picky. I've bought the very expensive to your average nip. All I know is, my cats love this brand! It comes in a hardy container (the last one was split on arrival.) If I pay for an item, I expect it to be in good condition. This comes with bits but I just roll it in my fingers and they go right for it.
I grow fresh catnip for my cats. I pick leaves and flowers for them fresh off the plant. I got this catnip to try out with them. They loved it too. Looking at the contents, it seems like a lot of flowers in the container. The flowers are the part with the most scent, I think. My cats seem to love it as much as they love the fresh stuff. Some cats react differently to catnip. I once had a cat that didn't react to it at all. Then, I got a kitten that went crazy for it. After a while, the cats seem to get satiated on it and just get mellow for a while. Give them more the next day and they go crazy for it again. Cats are weird. But, most cats that I have raised do love their catnip. This jar satisfied them and it makes me happy to see them happy.
This arrived fresh, still greenish, not browned or dried out. I put some in a box and some on a mat and my cats loved it. They ate it and rolled in it.No complaints.
My kitty approves! When I first got it instead of giving her some, I jammed a ball toy inside. It was a bit rough as the container is filled to the brim – but I did it. After two days I took the toy out and gave it to her. She LOVED it. Had a ball rolling around and playing and throwing it – and rubbing the ball on her face. I could hear her purring from across the room. So apparently this stuff is the good stuff! It is so different looking form any other catnip I have seen – guess it is more flowery and budlike. I hadn't heard of this brand of catnip before but figured at least one of the fur kids would like it. When I unsealed it, it took about 10 seconds for a couple of the cats to smell it several feet away. Both perked up their heads and were sniffing the air. The nip certainly looked good. Nice pieces and not broken up, dry dusty bits like some have been. I put some down for the elder boys. Usually they rub their faces in it, but both of them started eating it instead. okay.... They were pretty chill after that, just lounging around stoned out of their minds.I then gave some to the two younger cats. They also ate it. One of them has been known to eat nip, but the other usually rolls in it. Weird. Everyone ate this nip. They all got really mellow from it and seemed to really like it. I put one of their fur mice toys in the jar before I sealed it up for a nice treat next time I get it out. 5 paws for this nip nip.
I regularly buy bulk catnip because my cats love it and it doesn't make them fat like food treats. This went over well with the cats and it disappeared every time I put some out.I don't think it was the best price I've paid, but lately, everything is much more expensive that I am expecting it to be, so, my rating on that might be off. I used to pay about the same price for double the amount just a year or two ago.

Our 15-y-o blue-point Lynx-point is such a kitten at heart and *loooooves* his kick toys. He annihilates all his kick toys, and sadly, these are heading towards the same destiny so I'll be re-ordering soon! These seem to have been some of his favorites!
